Paul Pitt, 64, of Ulster Park was killed around 2:15 p.m., Saturday,  June 29, during a two-car fatal crash which occurred on Route 55 near Route 22 in the Town of Pawling, said Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Capt. John Watterson.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2009 Subaru Forrester driven by Pitt, was eastbound on Route 55 when it crossed over the center pavement markings and struck a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 49-year-old Karri A. Lambertus of Pawling, Watterson said.

Pitt was transported via ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he was pronounced dead.

Lambertus was flown to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, Watterson said.

The investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, but primary factor appears to be a medical issue on the part of Pitt prior to the crash, Watterson said.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Pawling Fire Department.
